Basic agreement on comprehensive partnership to jointly promotion of battery energy storage-related business with PowerX

JERA Cross Co., Inc. and PowerX, Inc. have reached a basic agreement on a comprehensive partnership to jointly promote battery energy storage-related businesses.

As the first phase of this collaboration, both companies will leverage grid-connected battery energy storage facilities, which PowerX is developing across Japan, to enhance their respective electricity business operations. Specifically, JERA Cross intends to utilize the balancing capacity for its carbon-free electricity supply services, while PowerX will use it for its renewable energy service "X-PPA" and within various trading markets. Both companies aim to start these efforts during the FY2025.

This collaborative utilization of battery energy storage facilities among electricity providers marks an industry first in Japan. Through this initiative, we aim not only to optimize electricity supply and demand but also to enhance predictability of returns on investments in battery energy storage projects, which continue to expand as renewable energy adoption grows and moves toward becoming the primary power source in the country.

Furthermore, JERA Cross and PowerX will not only jointly utilize grid storage facilities but will also advance the consideration and materialization of collaboration in a wide range of fields where batteries can be utilized in the future. This will support the stabilization of power supply and demand, further promote the introduction of renewable energy, and contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.
